Old Meets New

In this hard-working kitchen in a renovated 1903 house, the key was to integrate the new addition with the old part of the house. We did this through the color palette, finishes, accessories, and lighting to create a kitchen that is warm, inviting and designed to get better with age.

The color palette includes a variety of blues, grays and whites with some red accents. The perimeter kitchen cabinets are Benjamin Moore’s White Dove, the island is Benjamin Moore’s Nimbus Gray cut by 50% and the walls and trim are White Dove. The floors are a medium brown stain with some warm tones. Counters are honed soapstone which, when oiled are a dark gray, but then transition to a lighter blue-gray after the oil wears off.

French doors and numerous windows connect the space to the outdoors and bring in natural light from three different exposures (E, N, W). The vintage brass pendants over the island were found at a local antique shop and several pieces of furniture are from a family home in Maine.

Shrewsbury Kitchen

A simple facelift brought new life into this kitchen with some paint, new counters and backsplash tile. The cabinets, originally a dark stained wood were painted Benjamin Moore’s Coventry Gray which instantly brightened the space. The countertop is honed Jet Mist granite and the tile is a glossy white to reflect light and provide a contrast against the honed granite. The star of the kitchen is the custom butcher block island made in Pennsylvania. The existing white tile floor looks fresh in contrast to Benjamin Moore’s Nantucket Fog on the kitchen walls.

Sunshine Every Day

The client wanted to update a tired living and dining room area while keeping Grandma’s table and chairs and some family heirlooms. Number one on the client’s wish list was a canary yellow sofa, so we sourced that and then moved to the window treatment fabric. A yellow and gray color scheme was born and the rest flowed from there. Grandma’s table and chairs got a fresh coat of paint and new fabric on the chairs which brought them into the 21st century. The existing vintage crystal chandelier elevates the room and provides a soft glow to the space. Walls are Benjamin Moore’s Nimbus.

Nature Inspiration

The starting point for this table setting were the client’s twiggy birch dining chairs and the idea of a wildflower meadow. We sourced the vintage bottles from several estate sales and partnered with a florist to provide the wildflowers. We used the homeowner’s existing plates with vintage flatware and seagrass placemats. Napkin rings provided another place to tuck in some nature. The result is a cheerful and unique tablescape!

Little Silver Dining Room

The built-in corner cabinets and interior windows are what make this room stand out so the focus was on letting them shine. An indoor/outdoor rug was used to ground the space which worked really well with the homeowner’s existing table and chairs. We tied in the natural fiber look with the seagrass placemats paired with the client’s Tiffany and Blue Willow china. An outdoor lantern adds a sense of comfort with its traditional lines. Walls are painted in Benjamin Moore’s Nimbus Gray cut by 50% and the trim is B.M. White Dove.

Through the cased opening, you can see the Butler’s pantry beyond. Its herringbone tile is a beautiful handpainted blue tile from Mercury Mosaics. Counters are sourced from beams salvaged from the original carriage house. Lighting is vintage.

Through the other cased opening with pocket doors is the homeowner’s office/zen den with a seagrass rug and vintage oriental layered rug on top. Wall color is Quiet Moments from Benjamin Moore.

Foyer Update

This foyer had beautiful features but needed something special so we updated the chandelier and sconces and added a round table with stools to anchor the space.

Closet Surprise

We wanted to make a statement in this walk-in front hall coat closet so we looked to the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe for inspiration. Cole and Son Woods wall covering was the perfect way to achieve the immersive feel of the woods and the vintage chandelier reminiscent of Cinderella’s pumpkin coach was the perfect finishing touch.
